Product Info

How difficult are the stencils to use?

Most of our stencils are very simple and easy to use. The process is very quick! The level of detail on the stencil will determine how difficult or easy it is to burn.

As with all things, there may be a slight learning curve. After a few practice runs, you will be able to burn consistently and produce crisp, unique designs for your projects.

What kind of torch do you need?

We recommend a small, butane torch, similar to what a chef would use in a restaurant.

You do not want to us a LP, MAP or accetalyne gas torch, because they burn too hot and will warp the stencil. They can also cause the flame to blow out under the stencil, resulting in a poor quality burn and damage to the stencil itself.

What type of wood should I use?

You can use almost any type of wood. The main things you want to ensure to optimize your burn is to make sure that it is dry, untreated and flat.

Each species of wood will burn differently. We recommend a "practice" piece when starting a new project.

Will the wood burn smear after the stencil is removed?

The burn profile can smear after it is burned. However, you can use a variety of spray finishes to avoid this issue. Most can be purchased in aerosol cans at your local hardware stores.

Types of spray finish that we recommend are:

• Polyurethane

• Lacquer

• Shellac

• Varnish

What are the stencils made out of?

All of our stencils are made out of 304 Stainless Steel to eliminate increase the lifetime of the stencil itself and reduce warping during burning.

Where are the stencils manufactured?

Our stencils are proudly made in the USA, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the heart of the Midwest.
